ÖVI was founded in 1979.
More than 380 real estate agents, property managers and builders want to pursue the following objectives in
addition to their license:
- to comply the code of ethics
- submission to a court of arbitration
- compulsory professional insurance
- obligatory education and training
Although only 10 % of all Austrian real estate agents and property managers are ÖVI members, they generate
more than 50 % of the whole turnover.
For this reason ÖVI has become an important partner both for political and economic decision makers as
well as for consumers and the mass media.
The experts of ÖVI often take part in meetings preparing national or regional bills. They examine new laws
and regulations and prepare position statements and draft counter proposals if necessary. Together with the
Austrian Chamber of Commerce, they take up members's proposals for improvements, submitting requests for amendments
and improvements to the law. Thus ÖVI is able to fulfill the task of "Lobbying"in favour of its
members.
In order to fulfill the aim of continuing education ÖVI offers a
large number of seminars (professional education and training courses) on real estate subjects.
In 1989 a two years study programm was initiated by ÖVI in collaboration with the University of technology
called "Universitätslehrgang - Technik und Recht im Liegenschaftsmanagement" (Technology and
Law in Real Estate Management).
Recently new study courses (7-8 semesters) at socalled "Fachhochschulen" in Wiener Neustadt and Kufstein
have been developed in order to obtain high quality and high standards in real estate professions. The leading
partner for all the projects mentioned above is ÖVI.
ÖVI publishes books on real estate subjects. The loose-leaf edition
"Entscheidungen Wohnrecht" is very well-known by real estate professionals, lawyers and judges . Three
times a year the recent judgements of the supreme court concerning landlord and tenant law as well as the Condominium
Act are published therein. This collection has recently been published on CD-ROM.
ÖVI has created a platform for dialogues where professional knowledge of actual topics like environment,
ethics, internal market and legal frameworks in the European Union can easily be exchanged.
The main purpose of the association is to provide the members with all information required to perform their
day-to-day business.
ÖVI has become a member of CEI (Confédération Européenne
de l'Immobilier) in 1995. This offers the possibility of influencing decision making processes in Bruxelles
and of getting useful information. |
